I’ve recently been engaged on the redesign of an Intranet for a non-profit healthcare organization. One of the stakeholders asked how could social media work for their staff. Intranets were started to help with internal collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing. They also facilitate the dissemination of company policy, guidelines and business values. There is a definite home for social media applications with this kind of cross-pollination of information and conversation within a corporation. Read more

Intranets are private web sites only accessible from within an organization or business’ network. Many organizations have adopted Intranets to improve internal communication, business processes and sharing of company knowledge. A Twitter feed could be a great addition to keeping your Intranet up to date. If you’re a CEO or department manager, you could use Twitter to broadcast to your team your thoughts, ideas, company news and events. This could be a great way to keep your team on the same page with what is going on in your place of work.

In a recent report posted on eMarketer.com, Neilsen had shown a slow down in traffic to Twitter.com – a decline of nearly 30% in one month. What does that mean? You have to also take into account that Twitter users have and will continue to grow (double digits in 2010) as more learn how to incorporate it in their daily personal and professional lives. In my view, the decline in traffic to Twitter.com means absolutely nothing. It may just be inevitable. Read more
