Online Marketing Lingo

This is a work in progress. Here you will find a list of commonly used acronyms, terms and phrases used in online marketing and digital media. Because there is no shortage of them. But understanding them will make you sound like you know what you are talking about.

CMS: Content Management Systems. An application used to create and manage web pages, media, applications and forms.

CTA: Call To Action. Something you need a user to read or do in response to a campaign, offer or content.

PPC: Price Per Click. Is an advertising costing model where advertisers pay their hosts for each click on their ad. PPC rates are negotiable and have impact on how often and where the ads appear.

ROI: Return On Investment. Is the money gained or lost on an investment. In online marketing you must factor in all costs to create and deploy your marketing strategy and how much sales was derived from it.

URL: Unified Resource Locator. It is the protocol or address to local directories and pages across the web.
