The last few years have been a nightmare for the auto industry. First, it was years the big 3 (Ford, GM and Chrysler) were getting beat from better made more efficient Japanese and European car makers. Then, with the collapse of the world economy auto sales dropped to all time lows. The fallout from auto manufacturers have been wide spread.
This week Marketing Magazine reports that after 65 years with Chrylser, BBDO has been let go as their agency of record. Unfortunately, that’s not where this story ends. In response to being fiscally and morally responsible to stakeholders and employees BBDO has announce the closing of two offices and the potential lose of 565 employees in Canada and US. Ouch! In October, Chrylser reported seasonally adjusted annual sales rate of 10.48 million. This excludes Obama’s administration approvedĀ “cash for clunkers” program. This was the best month for U.S. car sales since October 2008. But for Chrylser it was drop of 30%. The worse of any major car maker in the US.
